The Sweet Noise of Life

Irish sculptor Paddy Campbell and Tuscan painter Simona Dolci have paired up for an exhibition in Pietrasanta exploring the important moments of human life. Campbell’s bronzes and Dolci’s paintings portray men and women engaged in daily activities, expressing feelings and emotions such as love, maternity and sensuality.

Piazza del Duomo hosts two monumental statues Wind and Water, and Life and Death, as well as a three-piece installation: Ilaria, Ilaria gets dressed, and Female Warrior. The public is invited to walk among the statues as if participating in their dialogue. At the entrance of the Church of Sant’Agostino is the statue The Princess and the Frog, while housed within is an illuminated marble work entitled Mother and Child. Dolci’s three portraits of young men are also displayed behind the altar, while visitors come across four additional sculptures of female figures in the cloister, including The violinist. The theme of femininity continues in the Sala del Capitolo, with interpretations on the idealization of women, in contrast to the male portraits featured in the Sala Putti.

The exhibition, promoted by the town council of Pietrasanta, START and the Foundation Versiliana, is on display in Pietrasanta until June 10, 2018.
