Bologna is currently hosting Foto/Industrie, the world’s only photography biennial dedicated to industry and work through 11 exhibitions: 10 exhibitions at venues around the city centre and Anthropocene at MAST.

The central theme of Foto/Industria 2019 is the built environment, a crucial element for the human species, which is explored here from every angle, from its historic and philosophical roots to its inevitable scientific implications. It is this activity that has given rise to the technosphere, a concept invented by Professor Peter Haff, professor emeritus of Geology in the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University, North Carolina, to describe the set of structures that humans have constructed to ensure their survival on the planet.

The fourth edition of Foto/Industria, which runs until November 24, features works by international photographers Yosuke Bandai, Lisetta Carmi, David Claerbout, Matthieu Gafsou, Luigi Ghirri, Délio Jasse, André Kertész, Armin Linke, Albert Renger-Patzsch, Stephanie Syjuco, plus Anthropocene by Edward Burtynsky, Jennifer Baichwal and Nicholas de Pencier.
