A number of works by the Italian artist were especially created for the unique spaces of the Stefano Bardini Museum, integrating with the eclectic collection. Curated by Sergio Risaliti, Meoni’s works unusually feature velvet, reflecting on lightness and darkness and the concept of time.
See moreThe Uffizi Galleries celebrates 100 years of the Modern Art Gallery at Palazzo Pitti with a virtual exhibition of 50 masterpieces. Covering painting and sculpture from 1924-2024, some of the most renowned works can be viewed on the museum website, detailing the history of the museum space dedicate to modern art in Tuscany, with works by artists such as Giuseppe Bezzuoli, Francesco Hayez, Adriano Cecioni and Pietro Benvenuti.
See the exhibition100 works, including drawings, engravings, paintings, sculptures and photographs ranging from the 13th century to the contemporary, illustrate how the perception of the most famous bell tower in the world has changed over the centuries, on the occasion of the 850th anniversary of the “Leaning Tower”.

Learn more about the exhibitionThe vast green space is the new venue for the popular culture fest that brings together top quality concerts by the likes of Roberto Vecchioni, Loreena McKenitt and a performance by Pink Floyd Legend with Orchestra della Toscana. A free shuttle bus brings you to and from the fest. Highlights include a concert at dawn by Patrizio Fariselli on July 27, with the lineup also featuring a photography exhibition titled Because The Night and other city centre based activities like the screening of 22 Giri Italian Masters at Cinema La Compagnia.
See the programmeThe side festival of Musart brings music and more to other spaces in the city and beyond. A free entry sunset concert on July 2 takes place in Palazzo Guadagni Strozzi Sacrati, the seat of the Tuscan Regional Council, featuring internationally renowned pianist, Alessandro Galati.
See the lineupThe 8th edition of the classical music series sees concerts in various Medicean villas in Tuscany, with audiences treated to performances by the Orchestra della Toscana in venues like the villas of Cerreto Guidi, Seravezza, and Pratolino Park. Mozart, Beethoven, Mendlessohn and Prokofiev are the composers conjuring their magic, with guided tours of the villas for an added cultural experience. Tickets from 10 euro (with free entry for some events), via TicketOne.it
See the concertsThe Annual Showcase of the Fondazione Mascarade Opera’s Florence Choral Course will be held at 8pm on July 5, with selected young singers from around the world performing music of the Italian Renaissance in the beautiful setting of the historic Palazzo Corsini al Prato. The ticket gives you access to the Fondazione and Corsini gardens (weather permitting) from 7pm, including the offer of a glass of wine.

See the programmeUntil August 28, Non Solo Cinema returns to Manifattura Tabacchi’s Cortile della Ciminiera, with a programme of screenings and events curated by Fondazione Stensen in Italian and original languge with subtitles.
Cinema under the stars at Querceto di Castellina is an unforgettable event on July 6 that sees wine-themed movie, Ridley Scoot’s A Good Year, screened under the Tuscan stars while sipping and savouring glasses of Chianti Classico or a gin-based cocktail crafted by the makers. Popcorn, of course, completes the scene, with the gorgeous vineyard view as a backdrop.
Apriti Cinema is one of the summer’s must-dos, as films are projected in Piazzale degli Uffizi until August 6. The best of Italian and international arthouse cinema in original language, with Italian subtitles, is enhanced with presentations by special guests all with free entry.
Cinema nel Chiostro comes to the new venue of the Sant’Orsola complex this summer, with the courtyard of the former convent transformed from July 1 until September 8 with art films and 150 seats under the stars
Cinema Tascabile is the roving film screen that brings movies to various piazzas from July 15 to August 7.
Villa Bardini places a giant screen on its panoramic Terrazza Belvedere for a film screening like no other as the city is laid out below you and a breeze brushes away the heat of the city, from July 9 until August 29.
For indoor options, avail of the Cinema Revolution initiative that consists of 3.50 euro entry to Italian and European films in participating cinemas all over Italy until September 14.
The 35th edition of the Florence Dance Performing Arts festival, is all about love, “I love dance, you love dance, we all love dance!” The spectacular circular stage in the historic setting sees international and national stars, opening on June 20 with the hyperrealist ‘Peeping Tom’ from Belgium and the award-winning contemporary performers from Gabriela Carrizo and Franck Chartier’s company who present ‘Diptych – The Missing Door & The Lost Room’. On June 26, there will be choreography by Northern Irish sensation Oona Doherty with her company Od Works, with concerts, workshops and more making up the busy lineup.

The Rosanna e Le Sue Storie library at the Le Curandaie headquarters on via Pagano 26, Le Cure, has plenty of tales for children and teens with the volunteer-led service offered every Tuesday in July from 4-6pm. The adult lending library is found in the CuRemake vintage space in via Guglielmo Pepe 47 Int.8, open in July from 10am-1pm and 4-7pm on Mon-Fri, and 10am-1pm on Saturdays.
The Schola Cantorum of the London Oratory, known for its soundtrack recordings for the Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings films as well as its highly acclaimed recordings of renaissance polyphony, gives a series of free admission concerts in Florence, with performances from July 17 to 22 in venues like the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella and the Basilica of Santissima Annunziata.
St. James Episcopal Church (via Bernardo Rucellai 9) hosts Yale University’s Whiffenpoofs, the world’s oldest collegiate a cappella group, at 6.30pm on July 16. The group have performed in front of US Presidents Obama, Bush, Clinton and Reagan, and at venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Kennedy Center. Free entrance, though donations are appreciated.
Knit Club is a free community event for crafters to come together to craft and share an aperitivo. Everyone brings their own project; whether you knit, crochet, embroider, sketch, or hand sew, any small crafting is welcome, with each participant bringing something to share together for the community aperitivo. The Children’s Lending Library, located at St. James Episcopal Church on via Rucellai 9, holds a summer reading challenge with all ages invited. Librarians will be on hand to help you choose a book, with prizes for the most voracious reader. The library is open from 10.30am to 12.30pm on Sunday, and on Thursdays from 4.30-6.30pm.
Villa San Michele, A Belmond Hotel holds a creative calligraphy experience with Betty Soldi on July 3, rediscovering the art of handwriting with a floral flair, followed by an aperitivo. A classical concert by students of the Fiesole Music School will be held on July 10, with mixology evenings on July 25 and August 28. DJ sets by the pool are held every Tuesday from 7pm, for a drink at sunset.
Enjoy dinner in the Tuscan hills with live music on Friday and Saturday nights at the Tre Rane Restaurant on Ruffino’s Poggio Casciano estate. Our advice: get there around 7pm to savour the sunset in the gardens with a complimentary glass of Ruffino wine.
Thursdays in Manifattura sees music, art and design, shopping, sport, talks and workshops, food and drinks and kids’ activities all come together in a weekly event at Manifattura Tabacchi. Every Thursday from 6pm, a wide-ranging programme will see something for everyone.
St Mark’s English Church (via Maggio 16) host a free entry concert at 3pm on July 18 titled ‘American Music Abroad – Gold Tour’ with a mix of jazz, folk, Broadway and Americana.
Lady Kendra of The Art of Style on via Romana 142/via dei Serragli 137 hosts ‘Intimate Conversations with Lady Kendra’ every Monday from 7-9pm, with ‘Mindfulness & Movement’ from 9-11am every Wednesday. On July 5 there will be a Gallery Showcase for Jerry Herman and every Friday following there is a “party to celebrate life”. On July 9, there will be a fashion showcase at The Lodge.
A narration of traditional and non-traditional fairy tales (in Italian) is curated by Vania Rotondi, Angela Antonini and Vieri Raddi at the Ultravox summer venue in Cascine Park across July and August. The free entry readings are followed by a merenda and are held at 6.30pm. For more fairy tales, head to Anconella Park on July 4 and 11 for tales for little ones aged four and over, led by Irene Barbugli and Margherita Fantoni. The activities form part of the Estate Fiorentina calendar.
