The first major institutional exhibition in Italy dedicated to one of the most celebrated British contemporary artists brings together paintings, drawings, film, photography, embroidery, appliqué, sculptures and neon installations, with the themes of sex and solitude underpinning the 60 works on display.
See moreThe Florence Korea Film Fest comes to Cinema La Compagnia from March 20-29, with the 23rd edition including an homage to the director Na Hong-jin through masterclasses and screenings, with online screenings available for those unable to make the festival. A leader in the Korean noir genre, his 2008 thriller, The Chaser forms part of the lineup, as well as The Wailing, a horror centred around an elderly man in a quiet rural village.
See the full programmeCristina Acidini and Claudio Paolini curate an intriguing exhibition around the couple – the art historian and writer/translator – and the circle of artists and intellectuals they brought together. Visitors are treated to Caravaggio’s Boy Bitten by a Lizard, the Apostles by Jusepe de Ribera, as well as the 40-plus paintings, drawings, photographs and documents that testify to the couple’s frequentations of esteemed literary figures and artists such as Ungaretti, Pratolini, Gadda, de Pisis, Guttuso and Mafai.
See the exhibitionCurated by Sergio Risaliti and Stefania Rispoli, the multifaceted career of the tireless artist born in Timisoara, Romania in 1929 is retraced, with her living and breathing textiles flowing across the exhibition space. Created using fabric scraps, her sculpture installations treat themes of identity, the patriarchy, the internet and our consumer society.

A large-scale figurative sculpture will be placed in piazza della Signoria from March 14 to September 14, standing 3.6 metres tall in dialogue with the historical works. Museo Novecento and Palazzo Vecchio dive deeper into his artistic career from March 14 to June 11, drawing our attention to how and why things are made, with references to ancient, classical and neoclassical sculpture.

See moreVisarno Market returns for its 18th edition on March 8 and 9 at the historic Visarno Racecourse, or so-called “Ippodromo del Visarno”, in the heart of Cascine Park, bringing a unique experience that blends past and present through vintage treasures, handmade creations, and a deep appreciation for sustainability. Alongside a curated selection of exhibitors, visitors can enjoy engaging workshops, vibrant DJ sets, and a captivating puppet show. Open from 11am-7pm.
Pimp my Vintage comes to The Social Hub (viale Spartaco Lavagnini 70-72) from 11am-8pm on March 30, with food, music, vintage and craft stands packed with creative recycling, emerging brands, and unique products made with attention to the environment.
The Creative Factory by the Heyart Association comes to piazza Ciompi from 9.30am-8pm on March 8+9, with the self-made market showcasing the creativity of artisans.
La Fierucola brings the best of biodiversity with crafts and homemade products by small-scale producers filling up stalls in popular piazzas. The Fierucolina takes place in piazza del Carmine from 9am to 2pm on March 9 and in piazza Santo Spirito from 9am to 7pm on March 16.
From the Front Door to the Top Floor: Empowering the Next Generation of Female Leaders is an international conference taking place on March 1 at Grand Hotel Baglioni, bringing together speakers, business leaders and experts from diverse fields to share insights on leadership, empowerment, resilience, health and personal transformation.

St James Episcopal Church (via Bernardo Rucellai 9) hosts the Roseburg Concert Chorale at 6pm on March 25, a 35-member community choir from Oregon, USA that will perform a diverse repertoire ranging from classical and spiritual to show tunes, conducted by Dr. Jason Heald, Director of Music at Umpqua Community College. Free entrance, with donations requested towards St James and its ministries. A concert and exhibition on March 29 titled Landscapes Within explores the human heart through original music composed by international composer and pianist Belinda É Samari in collaboration with the Florentine Orchestra Umana Armonia under the baton of Sara Pace, with sculptures and paintings by eminent and emerging artists associated with the Florence Academy of Art.
The British Institute of Florence (lungarno Guicciardini 9) continues its concert series with three pianists: Ruben Micieli on March 4, Sherri Lun on March 18, and jazz performer Giovanni Vannoni on March 27. The Wednesday Lectures Series features the ‘History of Winemaking in Chianti’ led by Guido Gualandi on March 5, Mark Roberts on ‘The Annunciation in Tuscan Art’ on March 12, Giuseppe Albano (Director of Freud Museum in London) gives a lecture on ‘Adventures in Antiquity and Psychoanalysis: Sigmund Freud’s Visits to Italy in the 1890s’ on March 19, and Lynn Catterson speaks about ‘A mirror endowed with memory…Photography, Artist and the Art Market in late 19th century Florence’ on March 26. Lungarno Chats on March 18 sees a conversation between Morgan Fiumi and Kim Campbell, the former Prime Minister of Canada. The Meet the Author Series dives into Livia Frescobaldi’s Inside Florence – Palazzi and Botteghe on March 24. Bridge is weekly on Tuesdays, with afternoon tea served on Wednesdays.
Sotto al British (lungarno Guicciardini 15) hosts life drawing led by Tom J. Byrne weekly on Mondays from 7-9pm with Lori Hetherington steering ‘Brainstorming for writers’ on March 18. An exhibition with works by John Griffiths is on show from March 7-April 10.
As part of her Studiolo Series, Paola Vojnovic hosts a conversation with Under the Tuscan Sun author Frances Mayes live on Zoom at 7pm on March 15, followed by Livia Frescobaldi of Inside Florence on March 22.
Reyna Rules Florence: A One-Night Filipino Feast at Cibaria. On March 13, Cibaria welcomes chef Erica Paredes, the culinary queen behind Reyna, the popular Filipino restaurant in Paris. For one night only, she’s bringing the bold, soulful flavors of the Philippines, infused with the best ingredients Italy has to offer. Take part in a visit to Il Palmerino at 4.30pm on March 13. ‘A Florentine Garden: Early Women Ex-pats and Artists of Today’ is an opportunity to explore the home of author Vernon Lee, which became the home/studio of painter Lola Costa and is now a cultural association.
Creative People in Florence (via dei Serragli 58r) holds an event with illustrator and pet-wear designer @p.s.iloveyoufurrypetwear from March 7-9, with your pawed friends welcome to explore the showroom. Anna Rose hosts punch needle workshops on March 4+18, there’s photo storytelling with Gaia on March 6+13, a meet up for creatives on March 20, botanical plaster casts with Kirstie on March 11, and a pop-up event with Les Grandes et Petites Marion and Lorac Ceramics from March 21-23.
The Florence Literary Society holds a meeting on ‘Submission Strategies’ led by Monica Sharp on March 29, open to members, with the membership fee payable on location or in advance.
The Christ Church Episcopal School Touring Ensemble from Greenville, South Carolina, made up of singers and instrumentalists between the ages of 14 and 18, performs music by Franck, Corelli, Saint- Saëns, Irving Berlin, Gershwin and more, from 7pm on March 4 at the Chiesa di San Filippo Neri, piazza San Firenze. Free entry.
