Time for Women!

Time for Women! Empowering Visions in 20 Years of the Max Mara Art Prize for Women’ is an exhibition showcasing the works of nine winners of the prize from 2005 to today: Margaret Salmon, Hannah Rickards, Andrea Büttner, Laure Prouvost, Corin Sworn, Emma Hart, Helen Cammock, Emma Talbot and Dominique White, covering painting, video, sculpture and installation and themes such as dentity, memory, the body, society and politics.

Wisteria at Giardino Bardini

The Wisteria in Giardino Bardini is an annual highlight. For about ten days, the picturesque “corridor” of purple blossoms is one of the most photographed spots in Florence. Usually starting around mid-April, be immersed in the scented surroundings of the much-loved garden.

Giovan Battista Foggini (1652-1725) – Grand Ducal architect and sculptor

Organized 300 years after the artist’s passing, the exhibition exalts the extraordinary figure whose artistic language shaped late-Medici Florence. Through a selection of sculptures, drawings and artefacts, the career of Foggini is traced from his training in Rome to his role as an architect and designer.

Music with Fresh Beats menu

Muse’s greatest hits are played by Drones from 9pm on April 18, composed of frontman, singer and guitarist Davide Pupilli, drummer Simone Nesti and bassist and backing vocalist Matteo Carilli. Enjoy the music while you dine on the the Fresh Beats menu featuring main courses ranging from Mediterranean to Korean cuisine, including the Patty Melt, Mediterranean Chicken Pita, Gochujang Wings and Stardust Wings accompanied by two tasty drinks, the Empress Hawaiian and Chili Lime Pineapple (with collectible glass included!) A special Easter lunch is served on April 20, with free face painting from midday to 3pm.

Hugo Pratt – Geografie immaginarie

Over 300 works explore the life and works of the artist on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of his death, and the 100th anniversary of his birth. Known for having brought into existence Corto Maltese, the popular graphic novel, the exhibition includes drawings, sculptures, watercolours, videos and digital and immersive scenography.

Bittersweet

The warm tones and saturated colours of the works by the Dutch photographer, Sander Coers, draw inspiration from the artist’s personal memories as an adolescent, presenting a cast of characters mostly made up of his friends and family, facing the transformative journey towards adulthood.

The free admission contemporary art exhibition hosted in the B9 building sees works by Giovanna Graniero, Gabriele Hoxha, Milo Maricelli, Demis Rosa, Nina Silvestri and Chiara Siddu; artists undertaking residencies that began last December. The former factory hosts the works alongside pieces by Zeno Festi, Sara Giacomelli, Francesco Maggiora, Bianca Migliorini and Gaia Lupo. Five ateliers form the exhibition itinerary that are usually reserved for individual research. The exhibition explores the role of the artist in contemporary society, considering artistic communities and their work environments as assets of collective interest. A weekly calendar of dialogues with the artists commences on March 19. Open Wednesday to Sunday, 11am to 7pm, free admission.

Amore Mio

Housed in a centuries-old warehouse, works by sculptor, Pax Vaira, and painter, Sebastian Kosmas, explore the stages of a relationship. Vaira works with colourful marbles, onyx and crystals to create contemporary figurative shapes, while Kosmas’ paintings are characterized by bright colors, fantastical creatures and mixed media on canvas.

Caravaggio and the 20th century – Roberto Longhi, Anna Banti

Cristina Acidini and Claudio Paolini curate an intriguing exhibition around the couple – the art historian and writer/translator – and the circle of artists and intellectuals they brought together. Visitors are treated to Caravaggio’s Boy Bitten by a Lizard, the Apostles by Jusepe de Ribera, as well as the 40-plus paintings, drawings, photographs and documents that testify to the couple’s frequentations of esteemed literary figures and artists such as Ungaretti, Pratolini, Gadda, de Pisis, Guttuso and Mafai.
