In Vernon Lee's Name

Events and workshops inspired by the English writer Vernon Lee (1856-1935) take place at Villa Il Palmerino and the GADA Playhouse in a series of (free) events, workshops and roundtables that look at Lee’s 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝐵𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑡 𝑂𝑓 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑁𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠 and contemporary revisitations. As part of Firenze dall’Alto, the series taking you to extraordinary viewpoints in Florence, visit Torre della Zecca in piazza Piave to discover its many stories and secrets. Explore the 14th century walls and small fort and learn about its defensive walls and role in producing coins. Two weeks of activities pack Prato from August 27 to September 6, with sites such as Palazzo Pretorio, piazza Duomo and Villa Guicciardini filling with DJs, theatre, music and events for children. Names like Loredana Bertè, Vasco Brondi, Deejay Time and Hardcore Superstar make up the programme.

Music From the Big Screen

From 9pm on August 29, Orchestra da Camera Fiorentina conducted by Giuseppe Lanzetta perform works such as Piovani’s ‘Life is Beautiful’, Morrione’s ‘Once Upon a Time in America’ and ‘Gabriel’s Oboe’, Bacalov’s ‘Il Postino’, an homage to Federico Fellini, and more for a blast of big screen hits in stunning surroundings. Dance4Gardens

Take a trip to the parco in Villa Vogel at 9pm on August 28 for a unique and innovative experiment in dance theatre linked to cinema staged for the national premiere of Dr. Franco and his assistant Igo, aimed at children and families. At 7.30pm on August 30, on the other hand, make your way to the Limonaia of Villa Strozzi for ‘Exercises of Apophenia’, a performance/meditation with music by Marco Mazzi. Finally, follow along paths in the woods of Villa Stibbert in pursuit of dancers weaving a fantastical route in the site-specific performance inspired by Gianni Rodari for children and families. Paint to Music at Villa Lena for charity

Music meets art in a series of events at Villa Lena to raise funds for the IRIS association in support of Ukrainian refugees. The ‘Paint to Music’ series led by Tal Walker (Royal College of Music, London) and Sue Dray (London College of Fashion) fuses music and art in visual performances that take place on August 13, 18, 25 and 31. Tal Walker, the Israeli/Beligian renowned pianist, specializes in a French repertoire, having transfixed audiences with his wide-ranging performances, including concertos by Mozart and Schumann. Joining him will be Sue Dray, an icon in the fashion industry who has worked with Vivienne Westwood and is currently course director at the London College of Fashion. She will respond to the piano music with a live painting on a large canvas, breathing life into the music. Tickets cost 20 euros with all proceeds to the Iris Toscana ODV charity. A 20 % discount is available for groups of more than 3 people. Kids under 6 go free, with material provided for them to create their own interpretations. Purchase tickets.
