Materia Prima Festival

A month of shows makes up the 12th edition of the festival dedicated to original contemporary productions that bridge the individual and the community. Among the titles is Bidibidobidiboo; the Italian premiere of Di cosa parla quando parla d’amore, the adaptation from Raymond Carver by Claudio Cirri; as well as the latest creation from the Sollicciano prison company, Affogo.

The Sky Above Florence

Following the success of Mr. Arbitrium in 2022, the Rome-born and Pietrasanta-based artist returns to the city centre with the dual-site exhibition Il Cielo Sopra Firenze (The Sky Above Florence): The Watcher beside Basilica of San Lorenzo and two Korf17 sculptures framing the entrance of Palazzo Strozzi Sacrati, the headquarters of the Tuscany regional government.

EXHIBITIONS

Terra Incognita: studies in cryptozoology

An elephant-bee, bumblebee-bear and wild boar-fish join an all-seeing starfish as some of the fantastical creatures on display alongside mythological subjects like the Hydra, dragons and Cipactli. The artworks by Arianna Fioratti Loreto are inspired by the science fiction story of the same name created with Marco Masseti, published by Edizioni Polistampa. On show are 70 medium- and large-sized works that celebrate the natural and animal worlds.

CONCERTS

Orchestra della Toscana hosts a Carnival Concerts series, with performances of pieces by Morricone, Kander and Gershwin in Teatro Verdi and beyond, until March 4.

The Christ Church Episcopal School Touring Ensemble from Greenville, South Carolina, made up of singers and instrumentalists between the ages of 14 and 18, performs music by Franck, Corelli, Saint- Saëns, Irving Berlin, Gershwin and more, from 7pm on March 4 at the Chiesa di San Filippo Neri, piazza San Firenze. Free entry.
