A chamber music extravaganza takes place on January 2, starring pianist Alessio Bax and friends, performing music by Beethoven, Schubert, Rossini and Vaughn-Williams. A second evening of chamber music will be on January 4, with Dohnanyi, Piazzolla, Rachmaninoff and Schubert forming the programme.

See morePalazzo Vecchio’s Salone dei Cinquecento is currently home to the Sala Grande exhibition that brings us back to when Giorgio Vasari went about enhancing the most magnificent of the Palazzo’s rooms. On display until March 9 will be La Sala Grande: Giorgio Vasari per Cosimo I De’ Medici, a small but significant display to commemorate the 450th anniversary of the architect and the Grand Duke who both passed away in 1574, and the glorious project that remains at the heart of Florentine civic life.

Videomapping on Ponte Vecchio, Palazzo Vecchio and San Paolino gathers gazers to share in the Christmas spirit. Lights spread the cheer all over the main squares and monuments of the city, with decorated trees adding to the joy. There’s a wide range of activities organized both in the centre and suburbs, above all aimed at families, and even Santa Claus and his elves show up to enjoy festive Florence.
