From circus to jazz to film screenings, there will be something for every taste this summer.
Until November 3, step beyond the veil to experience ghosts, ghouls and all things otherworldly.
Starting at 8pm, this weekly series of special dinner shows is bringing evenings alive in Florence.
To mark the 150th anniversary of the Historic Central Market, a music marathon from 6-30-11pm, karaoke, DJ sets and free guided tours will form the ‘Notte Bianco’ programme. Guests include the Accademia del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Nuova Pippolese and many more.
See moreJune 24 marks the feast day of the city’s patron saint, John the Baptist. The occasion is marked with an array of traditional events, including the crowning of the Marzocco statue of the Florentine lion in piazza della Signoria four days prior, on June 18. A Corteo degli Omaggi parade sets off at 8.30am from via Folco Portinari, passing piazza Duomo and via Calzaiuoli before reaching piazza della Signoria where the cross of San Giovanni will be handed to the Mayor of Florence in the Palazzo Vecchio while flag-throwers dazzle those gathered. The procession then departs with the Ganfalone di Firenze flag, making their way to the Baptistery where candles and the cross will be gifted to the Archbishops of Florence at 10am. A mass follows at 11am in the Cathedral. A river regatta at 6pm and the firework display, known as the Fochi di San Giovanni (which will be live-streamed on Società San Giovanni Battista’s Facebook, YouTube and website), at 10pm, are annual highlights, with crowds gathered along the river to salute the city.

Learn more about the exhibitionThree itineraries lead participants through the lesser-known sites of the UNESCO awarded historic centre, exploring the architecture, history and landscapes, taking in the gates, towers and fortresses that have stood strong for centuries. The free events taking place until June 30 are aimed at young people and adults, and last two hours. Walks are held at 5pm, with both English and Italian language versions. The routes explore the historic walls that trace around the city, with a particular look at the San Gallo area, with another route weaving towards San Miniato al Monte. The programme of walks forms part of the Firenze Forma Continua project, organized by the Florence World Heritage and UNESCO Relations Office together with MUS.E, with the aim of spreading knowledge of the city’s history. Find out moreAfter great success in Monza and Bologna, the exhibition comes to Florence with a completely renewed display that immerses visitors in the world of monsters from Japanese tradition. Over 150 works from the 18th and 19th centuries are on show, including prints, rare books, masks, and weapons and armor on loan from the Stibbert Museum. Highlights include the pitch dark room that becomes illuminated with 100 candles, accompanied by the voice of a Samurai. Young visitors will be especially pleased by the Pokémon and other contemporary interpretations, with a treasure hunt and art space especially created to entice kids. Adolescents, on the other hand, find intrigue in the works by Giulia Rosa, an online sensation, who has interpreted 7 legends with her digital art.
A new Pitti Immagine event dedicated to bikes and cycling puts a focus on pedal style in the lead up to the Tour de France. The three-day exhibition event brings talks, interviews and presentations, in collaboration with the international magazine, Rouleur.

Other intriguing events include a talk with Bruno Cucinelli and Toast Project Space hosts FALSETTO by Enej Gala until June 23, exploring Collodi’s classic Pinocchio, with free entry on Thursdays until midnight. There’s ‘Shake, Sound and Sushi’ with a live band, and extended opening hours at the ateliers on site as well as many dining options like pizza at Berberà and typical Japanese cuisine at Hiroko Bentō making it well worth a visit.

Adam & The Apples perform on June 19 and 21 as part of the weekly dining shows at House of Nine.
