TEDxFiesole

World-class speakers tackle burning issues with the first edition of the idea-spreading talk series in Fiesole, exploring possibilities in clean energy, social entrepreneurship, climate and sustainable finance and new technologies. Speakers include Manuel Pulgar-Vidal (global leader of Climate & Energy at WWF) and Sarah Roberts (CEO of Practical Action NGO), speaking around the theme of ‘A Renewed Humanism’.

EXHIBITION

Love not War

From 7-9pm on September 21, head to Sotto Al British for the vernissage of ‘Love not War’, an art exhibition to raise humanitarian funds for the Red Cross in Ukraine, with the artworks having been specially created by the artists ErikArt Hoenig, Tom J.Byrne, Jennifer Leo and Look – Ah. The works will subsequently be on display from September 22-28, from midday to 5pm.

A week all about the world of art sees Florence fill with amazing exhibitions and artistic events. Numerous entities are involved, including Museo Novecento, MUS.E, Palazzo Medici Riccardi, the Uffizi, Palazzo Strozzi, Istituto degli Innocenti and the BIAF – International Antiques Biennial, with major exhibitions and extended hours part of the programme.

Artigianato e Palazzo

90 creators of artisanal excellence come to the glorious gardens and centuries-old palazzo with exhibitions, installations, workshops and events that explore the role of crafts in contemporary society. The ballroom will host an exhibition dedicated to vegetable tanned leather with the Abbraccio installation under the loggia keeping viewers lingering. Entrance 10 euro, free for under 12s.

Olafur Eliasson: Nel tuo tempo

The multifaceted Icelandic-Danish artist positions visitors at the core of his reflections on the concept of shared experience. Venture into the artist’s unique engagement with the Renaissance palace, with the courtyard, piano nobile and Strozzina undercroft transformed by colour, water and light-focused works, interacting with the senses and creating lasting impressions.

Genius Loci

Five evenings see music and more in the basilica, cloister and cenacle, with guests including Angelo Branduardi, Markus Stockhausen, Petra Magoni and Wim Mertens performing amid the extraordinary cultural heritage of the Santa Croce basilica complex. Pitti Fragranze

Artistic perfumery is celebrated with every sense imaginable as over 140 brands present all things fragrant to pros with a nose. Special guest Alessandro Gualtieri shares his expertise, as the 20th edition launches upcoming trends in the olfactory realm.

Concert with brunch at Ruffino's Poggio Casciano Estate

Enjoy a tasty Tuscan brunch accompanied by the avant-jazz trio Ghost Horse, as part of the Firenze Jazz Festival. Musicians Dan Kinzelman (US), Joe Rehmer (US) and drummer Stefano Tamborrino (IT) perform their creative fusion of Latin and African polyrhythms, with their unique approach to the blending of free jazz, hip hop, blues and loop music. Cost of brunch + concert: € 55 with à la carte wines. Free for children under 4 years old, 20 euro for children aged 5-12.

Henry Moore in Florence and Back To Moore: Forte Belvedere 1972

The artistic display at Museo Novecento pays tribute to the well-known English artist 50 years after his memorable exhibition at Forte Belvedere in 1972, with historical images collected from personal archives. In conjunction, two of his monumental works, Family Group and Large Interior Form, will be exhibited in piazza della Signoria and the churchyard of San Miniato al Monte respectively.

Wonderful Market

Vintage comes to The Student Hotel, along with a handmade market, workshops such as creative embroidery by Caryatid, musical entertainment, literary presentations and activities for children. Free entry, open from 3-11pm.

EXHIBITION

Mr & Mrs Clark

Ossie Clark and Celia Birtwell are at the centre of this exhibition that looks at fashion and prints from 1965-74. With stylized geometries, floral bouquets and art-inspired patterns, Ossie Clark defined Swinging London with its colourful, flowing dresses and unmistakeable ‘flower power’. Admire Celia’s prints on light silks and chiffon, which Ossie transformed into dresses that were popular amongst the international jet-set and those in the pop scene from Brigitte Bardot to Mick Jagger, and not forgetting Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Liz Taylor.
