The Astra Cinema in piazza Beccaria hosts the sixth edition of the Firenze Film Festival, the annual event dedicated to independent cinema, on September 22. The diverse selection of indie films from around the world draws both the passionate and the curious, with the wide-range of free-entry films appealing to all. Urban regeneration and climate activism are the themes of the fifth edition, taking place from September 28-30 and curated by LAMA Impresa Sociale. Created with the aim of building an open and diverse space for dialogue and thought on urban transformation and the related challenges, the free-entry talks (in Italian) are bound to stimulate interesting discussion around the topical themes. With 64 national and international speakers, there will be talks, workshops, children’s workshops, an exhibition and DJ sets.
The first edition of the River Festival will be held in Pontassieve, with the three days of the fest featuring talks, music, and activities for all ages around the themes of care and protection for water and the environment.
The first edition of the Japanese Film Festival in Tuscany is made up of a packed free-entry programme with screenings, tastings and more creating a cultural bridge between Italy and Japan.
Organized by Ortinterrazza cultural organization, committed to greenery and all things natural, quality craftsmanship will be on display as well as delectable bio products. The lyrical melodies of Mozart, Rachmaninov, Chopin, Scarlatti and Esdì can be heard throughout the city and beyond as skilled musicians mesmerize audiences in locations like the Murate Art District, Institut Français Firenze and the Cherubini Conservatory of Florence.
From September 22 to January 28, the Renaissance courtyard of the palazzo housing the Roberto Casamonti Collection will see a site-specific creation by Felice Limosani, titled Pezzi di Pace (Pieces of Peace). The historical architecture will be contrasted by a dramatic obelisk rising up to the height of the arches, pointing towards the sky while suspended above a body of water.
The spectacular venue is filled with high-calibre music performed by musicians from the Fiesole Music School, Chiara Giommetti and Rayan Kamagoda, from 6.30pm on September 28. Composers featured include Jacques Ibert, Mauro Giuliani, Heitor Villa-Lobos and Astor Piazzola. A welcome drink adds to the experience, with an aperitivo overlooking the glorious gardens forming part of the unforgettable experience. Cost: 50 euro. Works by one of the greatest exponents of 20th-century photography, Robert Mapplethorpe, are on display alongside shots by Wilhelm von Gloeden, among the pioneers of stage photography, with a selection of photographs from the Alinari archive.

Celebrate World Dream Day by taking the time to explore your goals at Hotel Savoy’s Irene Bar with themed finger foods, drinks and artwork by the artist behind this month’s cover of The Florentine, Inna Morozova. Using artificial intelligence to craft oneiric and surreal depictions of Florence and the Hotel Savoy in oil paintings and video art, the A Florentine Dream exhibition will continue for a month. Sport, culture and solidarity are together again for the latest edition of the fundraising event dedicated to the treatment of breast cancer. Depart from viale Lincoln alle Cascine and get to piazza della Signoria, undertaking either the 6km or 11km courses, with a 10-euro donation requested. Wearers of the t-shirts will have free access to many cultural destinations.

The fourth edition of the festival dedicated to solo piano performances features international talents Yaron Herman, Nik Bärtsch and Isfar Sarabski playing in atmospheric settings.
At 7pm on September 28, the Trio Interval, currently completing their training at Hochschule für Musik Theater und Medien Hannover, will be playing an exciting programme at the Fondazione Mascarade Opera. The trio created in October 2022 is composed by Mariia Kostogryz (violin), Anvar Nasriddinov-Bitson (cello) and pianist Oleksandra Kiktenko. The musicians will perform A. Mozart Piano Trio C-dur K.548, Bridge Miniatures for Piano Trio: Set 1: Minuet, Gavotte, Allegretto, Mendelssohn Piano Trio c-Moll and Kreisler Viennese Miniature March. The concert lasts 60 minutes, with tickets purchasable at www.classictic.com.
The Toast Project Space at Manifattura Tabacchi presents the contemporary art project by Luca Coclite that uniquely unites culture and nature, with text by Enrico Camprini. Open Tuesday to Sunday, 3-9pm, with free entry.
