While The Florentine may seem like a small community paper, many are likely unaware of the extent to which our activities stretch. Having celebrated its ninth birthday in April, TF has been publishing twice monthly since 2005 and has been involved in several partnerships with prestigious local institutions.

One of our latest projects is a collaboration with the Lorenzo de’ Medici Institute (LdM) in Florence to create the online media platform LdM News (www.ldmnews.it). The site provides news and cultural information to study-abroad students, locals and tourists in Florence, taking them beyond sightseeing to what makes this great city beat. Combining online articles, photography and video reporting, LdM News provides the city of Florence with a strong English-language media presence giving readers the best news, event reviews, concert, sports and exhibit information, as well as features on culture, lifestyle, fashion and much more.

Moreover, in addition to creating and developing this online platform, our partnership with LdM has, been an invaluable learning and training experience for students. International students who are in Florence studying journalism, media and communications and English literature have the opportunity to work alongside members of TF to produce material for the website, gaining experience in journalism and media from our experienced staff.

The project is an important part of TF’s outreach to the local and international community. It also reflects an editorial policy in which content is created by our readers and for our readers. Through LdM News, TF is able to share its print and online content in visual form.

Our partnership with LdM has led to another prestigious collaboration. A selection of LdM News videos will soon be accessible on the official website of the City of Florence, enabling the city to further reach out to English-speaking visitors and residents.
