The façade of the Istituto degli Innocenti, in piazza Santissima Annunziata, has been restored to loving view.

Following five months of intense restoration work, the scaffolding has been removed and the restoration project finished, part of the new Innocenti Museum complex, which reopened in June 2016.

Eight of the ten “putti” by Andrea della Robbia have been returned to the façade after undergoing restoration at Florence’s Opificio delle Pietre Dure and having been on display in the Innocenti Museum for six months.

The remaining two “putti” will remain on permanent show in the museum’s halls due to their delicate condition of conservation, but two copies are being made and are expected to be added shortly to the building’s façade.

A putto is a figure in a work of art depicted as a chubby male child, usually naked and sometimes winged.
