The City of Florence flag will fly at half-mast on public buildings today as a sign of civic mourning for the life of Idy Diene, a 54-year-old man of Senegalese origin who was shot dead on Ponte Vespucci on March 5.

Mayor of Florence Dario Nardella has invited schools and workplaces to observe a moment of silence at 11.50am, which was the time of Idy’s death. Businesses have also been encouraged to lower their shutters for ten minutes from 11.50am to 12noon.
These public observances come after this morning’s funeral ceremony, which was held at 8am in the Cappelle del Commiato.
