Some of Italy’s most beautiful private spaces and homes will open their doors to the public on Sunday, May 27 as part of the Associazione Dimore Storiche Italiane (ADSI) National Day.

In Tuscany, dozens of castles, villas, gardens, courtyards and palaces, normally with limited access or privately owned, will be open for visits from 10am to 1pm and 2 to 7pm. 2018’s edition forms part of a wider European event, Private Heritage Week (May 24-27), which celebrates the hidden gems around the continent.

Thirty remarkable locations will be open in downtown Florence alone, among them the Torrigiani, Pergole and Corsini gardens; Palazzo Frescobaldi; Palazzo Pucci; the Church of San Pietro a Carreggi and Palazzo Pepi. Palazzo Ruschi is participating in Pisa, along with a handful of gardens and villas in the surrounding villages. Equally noteworthy venues will open in the Mugello, Siena, the Etruscan Coast and many more towns around the region.

ADSI guided tours (some free, some paid) will be available in many of the towns and sites involved. Additional entertainment beyond the architecture itself will be offered at several locations: the Palazzo Fantoni Bononi in Lunigiana will have live music with a small buffet spread out in its garden, and tastings of local products will take place at numerous participating venues. For the full list of locations in Tuscany, see the ADSI website.
