Presided by co-presidents Andrea L. Davis and Maurizio Mancianti, the ceremony is an institutional event organized with the City of Florence to attribute the Tuscan American Award, given to two award recipients, one Tuscan and the other American, who have contributed significantly to further developing the ties of friendship and exchange between the United States and Tuscany.

This year’s award recipients are Dr. Chiara Azzari, director of the immunology department of the Meyer Pediatric Hospital, for her work as a doctor and researcher as well as for her involvement with the Help the Children project to create a network of information among pediatric hospitals throughout the world; and the painter and educator Jules Maidoff, founder and president emeritus of SACI, Studio Arts College International, as an artist and mentor and for SACI’s ongoing collaboration with many local institutions. Intended as an opportunity to present persons or entities who are positive role models for the many American students studying abroad in Tuscany, the ceremony will be held in English.

The award ceremony begins at 5pm. Welcoming remarks will be made by the mayor Dario Nardella and vice-mayor Cristina Giachi, the consul general of the US Consulate in Florence Benjamin V. Wohlauer and the two co-presidents.
