The Florentine welcomes applications for internships this autumn and winter from enterprising native English speakers with advanced Italian who thrive in a creative environment, love to read, write—and, especially translate—and cannot think of a more beautiful city than Florence.

The TF team (we don’t always have long lunches!)

We are a small, highly creative and very hardworking team – we are open to ideas. We provide guidance and feedback, but we expect our interns to be enterprising individuals who take initiative: the basis of all good journalism. All interns must have an advanced level of Italian in order to benefit from our bilingual work method.

Interns gain a genuine sense of what goes on in an editorial team, but the main focus will be on Italian to English translations for our external clients. This does not exclude editorial duties, which include copy editing and proofreading; interviewing and writing; pitching article ideas; researching news outlets; translating and conveying in English news taken from Italian primary sources; attending press conferences and events; developing photo essays and reportage; social media strategy and commercial strategy; photojournalism, podcast preparation and video journalism.

The Florentine is also involved in a whole series of other initiatives given our vocation as a grassroots publication – we hold monthly Drop-In Breakfasts and talks in association with Ruffino Wines.

**Please note that internships are unpaid and we are unable to provide assistance in finding accommodation or covering insurance needs.

Please send your CV and writing samples to our editor Helen Farrell at h.farrell@theflorentine.net.
