Restoration of the Coliseum, one of Italy most visited monuments, is scheduled to begin in April 2010, says Rome mayor Gianni Alemanno, to commemorate the Italian capital’s 2,763rd birthday. ‘One of the greatest monuments in the world today is in an unacceptable state, from the fence that surrounds it, to its use and access,’ Alemanno told Italian daily Il Messaggero.
