On April 19, a selection of designer gowns will be auctioned to raise funds for the Milan cathedral’s ongoing Adopt a Spire campaign, a project to restore the famed Gothic edifice, completed over the course of nearly five centuries.
The auction is part of a gala evening at the Palazzo Reale being organized by the Veneranda Fabbrica, which is responsible for the upkeep and restoration of the cathedral, the largest in Italy and fifth largest church in the world, with the support of the National Chamber of Italian Fashion, Tiffany & Co. and Christie’s auction house.
The items being donated for the event, La moda aiuta il Duomo, are from the collections of Giorgio Armani, Brunello Cucinelli, Cividini, Corneliani, Costume National, Etro, Salvatore Ferragamo, Genny, Gucci, Isaiah, Krizia, Loriblu, Martino Midali, Missoni, Moncler, Moreschi, OTB Diesel, Prada, Emilio Pucci, Roberto Cavalli, Tod’s, Trussardi, Neighbors, Vivienne Westwood and Tiffany.
A preview of the gowns, along with Tiffany jewels, will go on display at the cathedral museum on April 14.
