On the last day of this year’s championship, Fiorentina finally secured itself a spot in next year’s Serie A championship. By winning a difficult match against Brescia, and thanks to the results of the other final games on Saturday, Fiorentina managed to tie classification points with Parma and Bologna.

Parma and Bologna will now have to play another two matches to decide which of the two will also remain in the A Series and which will be knocked down to the B Series. Although Florence has the same number of points as these two teams, throughout the championship it won (or tied in away games) in those matches played against these teams, so it remains exempt from any further matches.

It was an exhilarating final match for Fiorentina, with a home game that ended in a 3-0 victory against Brescia. The stadium was packed with Florentine fans that did their best to encourage the team, singing and chanting for the entire 90 minutes of the game. As soon as the game had finished, all of the players united in the centre of the field to listen to the radio results of the Lecce-Parma and Bologna-Sampdoria games, in which all four teams were fighting to avoid the bottom position of the classification. The stadium fell into total silence for 40 interminable seconds as the results were read. Upon hearing that Florence was safe, the stadium once again exploded into shouts and cheers of victory.
