The Gran Premio d’Italia of motorcycling will be getting into gear at Barberino di Mugello from June 2 – 4 with an enormous charge of speed and adrenaline. Moto GP is one of the most popular sports enjoyed by the Italian public and world wide; the motorcycles reach over 300 kilometres per hour, as drivers push their bikes to the limit with daring trajectories and continuous passing manoeuvres. The track at Mugello, which is over 5 kilometres long, was built in 1914 – a period famous for great idols like Enzo Ferrari and J.M. Fangio.
The Mugello track is famous for its difficulty and the natural beauty of its surrounding environment. Considered by many drivers to be the most demanding track in Italy, it combines slow and fast curves and numerous climbs and descents. The track record belongs to Sete Gibernau, who won in 2004 in one minute and 51 seconds at an average speed of 170kph. In a three-day series of races, events include both free trial sessions and qualification trial sessions for 125cc, 250cc and Moto GP.
