Saunier Duval mountain specialist Iban Mayo has confirmed that he’ll make his first appearance in the Giro d’Italia in the forthcoming season. Speaking at the official presentation of the Saunier Duval team, the 29-year-old revealed his programme for the year to come. ‘Before the Tour de France, I’ll take part in the Giro for the first time,’ he said. ‘I can’t wait to do the race, especially because I won’t be riding under pressure. Gilberto Simoni will be our leader.’ Although Mayo asserts that his team-switch has sparked new personal ambitions, he’s admitted that he’ll find it strange to be ‘wearing yellow after so many years in orange.’
