Florence’s outgoing superintendent of culture and sports, Eugenio Giani, was recently elected the president of CONI Provinciale, besting favorite Roberto Bellocci 30 to 18 for the coveted role. Giani’s win came as a surprise to many, as did the number of votes he garnered. Remarking on Giani’s unexpected win, Bellocci said he will leave his presidential hopes behind and bow out of sports management for a while. Giani reports that he is thrilled about his new position and says he will work hard to convince naysayers that he is fit for the job.
