March 30, a parcel bomb exploded in the military barracks of the Folgore
parachute brigade in Livorno, seriously injuring the officer who opened the
large, brown envelope. Lieutenant-Colonel Alessandro Albamonte was immediately
rushed to the hospital in Florence, where doctors said that along with severe
injuries to his hands, Albamonte suffered serious eye injury and burns.
According to reports from police, the envelope was sent by an unidentified
group of ‘anarchists.’
