Nine
areas of the city of Livorno will be covered by free WiFi. Thanks to a two-year
contract, the new service, which is part of the project LivornoNet, will be
active by summer.

‘We
finally found someone who will set up and operate the service for a long time,
expanding the possibilities of navigation for citizens and tourists,’ said city
councillor for labour Darya Majidi.

The areas to be covered
include the Mascagni Terrace, Villa Fabbricotti, piazza Attias, the Rotonda di
Ardenza, piazza Grande, Central Market, piazza Saragat, piazza del Municipio,
piazza Cavour.

The
service will provide two free hours of Internet access per day. Users must
first register on a portal to use the service. There will be a 24-hour call
center for those who have difficulty logging on and the service will allow
users to navigate with any device: personal computer, laptop, netbook, PDA, or
smartphone. Also, the number of WiFi hot spot locations in the city will soon
grow.

‘The
WiFi will help to bridge the digital divide and will allow even more citizens
and businesses to interact with the public administration, accessing the many
online services that the municipality of Livorno has started,’ Majidi added.
