The great American tradition of private support for public causes is especially evident during the holiday season, when individuals give to institutions and organizations they believe in and help those in need.
Students at the International School of Florence (ISF) experience this admirable tradition first-hand. On Thanksgiving, Laura Pacini of the Sant’Egidio Church gave a short presentation on their work with the homeless people in Florence and thanked the ISF community for the collected food towards this cause.
To support the Annual Christmas Bazaar of the American International League of Florence (AILO), the school community has donated used toys, books and household items. Proceeds from the bazaar are distributed among at least a dozen local charities, including Angels for a Day.
In recent years, the City of Florence has honored AILO by allowing it to use one of the most important venues in Florence, the Salone dei Cinquecento in the Palazzo Vecchio for the Donation Day Ceremony.
