While Pitti Uomo presented the latest from world-famous fashion designers, Polimoda recently presented the designs of the next generation of talent. At Villa Favard, the design school displayed the top 20 collections designed by its graduating students.
The students, who represented Austria, Greece, Italy, Korea, Portugal, Russia and Turkey, presented eight outfits each, showcasing 11 women’s and 9 men’s collections. In addition to the catwalk at Villa Favard, the show was streamed live on Polimoda’s website (www.polimoda.com) and on Not Just a Label (www.notjustalabel.com), a platform for young independent fashion designers.
As attested by the buyers, designers, head hunters, journalists and fashion bloggers in attendance, fashion insiders were scoping out tomorrow’s stars.
Among the women’s collections, Cecilia Sertori’s Dethroned God showed reality through the digital screen; Violante Toscani’s Women I Wanna Be drew inspiration from the 1970s; and Leonor De Assis Ferreira’s Of Flappers and Philosophers channelled the Jazz Age of F. Scott Fitzgerald while flouting the present.
Among the men’s collection, Hannes Wandaller’s Du Bist, Ich Bin explored the issue of bullying; Alessandro Trincone’s Kings and Queers reimagined Pulcinella; and Utku Serkan Zengin’s I Wonder as I Wander played his native Turkish heritage in a modern key.
