After five years and a nearly two million euro restoration, San Gimignano’s twelfth-century Campatelli tower and house will reopen to the public on April 15.
One of the town’s 14 remaining medieval towers, Campatelli is protected by the Fondo Ambiente Italiano, a national non-profit dedicated to preserving Italy’s cultural heritage, which acquired the property in 2005 at the request of its former owner, Lydia Campatelli.
Restoration, which began in 2011, included extensive structural work and improvements to the chapel. As the project enters its final stages, focusing on the piano nobile, decor and furnishings representing the tastes of the eighteenth- and nineteenth-century Tuscan upper classes are being collected and arranged.
