President of the Tuscan Region, Enrico Rossi, recently announced that Autolinee Toscana Spa has tentatively been selected to oversee local transportation in Tuscany.
The assignment is provisional: Tuscany’s regional traffic assessor Vincenzo Ceccarelli noted that finalising selection of the overseer, which typically maintains the role for 11 years, will take another two to three months.
During the selection process, Autolinee Toscana, which is connected to the French group Ratp, scored a 99.54 quality control rating, outranking the current overseer, Mobit group, which earned a 94.03.
Ceccarelli emphasised that the reorganisation of the Tuscany local transit system will involve ‘no layoffs’. He cited agreements with the unions and 81 million euro allocated for retraining staff.’
In providing updates on the selection of the overseer, the Region announced that ticket prices will remain fixed for at least two more years. Additionally, transportation officials are planning a single ticket for intraregional travel and a consistent region-wide fee schedule.
