Young Italians are going climatarian in their food habits, a Barilla Center for Food and Nutrition (BCFN) survey has shown.

The survey of 800 Italians aged 18 to 30 throughout the country showed that 62 percent are willing to adopt sustainable diets, 64 percent said they have no negative repercussions on social life and 73 percent believe such a diet to be nutritious. Another 61 percent views such diets as too expensive.

An entry in the New York Times’ list of top food words in 2015, “climatarian” refers to someone whose diet is based on locally sourced food, limiting food waste and avoiding the most energy-consuming of meat products in efforts to lower carbon emissions and combat climate change.
