The Keys to the City of Florence were awarded to Daniel D’Aniello by mayor Dario Nardella on October 19 in Palazzo Vecchio’s Sala di Lorenzo, following his 10-million-dollar donation to his alma mater Syracuse University in Florence earlier this year.

Mayor Dario Nardella commented, “We wanted to give Daniel D’Aniello the Keys to the City for his gesture of love towards Florence. His donation to Syracuse University Florence, as well as his help with Angelo del Mundo in 1966, confirms an attachment to our city that fills us with pride. For us, it’s also a confirmation of the value of the thousands of students present at the over 40 American universities in the city. It’s a precious presence that’s capable of building a bond that remains over time and that we must enhance, enabling this community of students to become part of the city and further expanding the panorama of universities to be brought to the city”.
