Description
Women of the Flood
A New Future for Florence, 1966
This edition, conceived and created by Calliope Arts Foundation, with The Florentine, is published as a tribute to the women of the 1966 flood in Florence, on its sixtieth anniversary. Its introductions by Giovanni Bettarini and Margie MacKinnon are followed by a principal text by Linda Falcone, which includes excerpts from conversations or written statements kindly shared by the following experts. Without their words, this tribute could not have been created: Elisa di Renzo, Maria Luisa Righini Bonelli, Mara Miniati, Alessandro Sidoti, Fiorella Orlandi, Speranza Storace, Sheila Waters, Emanuela Daffra, Ornella Casazza, Vanessa Nicolson and Katherine Kuh.
We’d like to thank the project’s partner institutions: Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Firenze, Calliope Arts Foundation, Comune di Firenze, Museo Galileo, the Opificio delle Pietre Dure, and media partners The Florentine and Restoration Conversations and their many generous representatives. We are also indebted to the Museo Galileo Library, the Alinari Foundation for Photography, the BNCF Archives, the Vanessa Nicolson Archive, and the Opificio delle Pietre Dure Archive. Thank you for the research, insight and images that have made this publication possible.
