What better
way to foster intercultural and religious cooperation in Jerusalem than with a mouth-watering,
authentic Italian pizza. Thanks to an ambitious initiative launched by Florence’s Unicoop,
approximately 300 Muslim, Christian and Jewish children living in the Beat Hanina neighborhood in Jerusalem will be able to savour one of Italy’s
most well-known and best-loved culinary specialties.

The
Unicoop’s Middle East mission is not solely
gastronomic. By opening up a pizzeria in the sports centre where children meet,
play and interact daily, the Unicoop initiative will make sure that the centre
keeps its doors open, providing much-needed financial support to the
association.

Eleven
students from the Pedagogical high
school in San Giovanni Valdarno
, Florence,
are also involved in the initiative, helping the children in Jerusalem decorate the centre with wall
murals and sculptures.

Top Unicoop
officials, Turiddo Campaini and Claudio Vanni recently received special awards
for the Unicoop’s efforts in sustaining the local economy in Jerusalem.
