Historic Florentine gelateria Badiani has placed first in a competition organized by the London Gelato Festival.

The festival was held at popular Old Spitalfields Market from June 26 to 28. Thousands of people tasted ice cream from all over Italy, casting their votes.

Badiani’s owner and gelato maker Paolo Pomposi won first prize with his contemporary interpretation of Buontalenti. Named La Dolcevita, the winning gelato is made from cream, milk, sugar and eggs, served with chocolate sauce and hazelnuts.

The gelateria is considering opening an outlet in the British capital: ‘We wanted to understand how Brits respond to Italian gelato, and now we can say that it proved an absolute success’.
