Outdoor summer nightlife events in Florence got off to a slow start this year, and when they finally did begin, the opening weekend was hit with cold, windy weather. But after these few initial glitches, night-time activities now seem to be in full swing all over the city.

Possibly one of the most interesting new activities this year is the S. Ambrogio Summer Festival, located in Piazza Ghiberti. The City, together with neighbourhood representatives and the organisers of “Jazz&Co.” (the group that has successfully run events in Piazza Santissima Annunziata for the past four years), has created an attractive programme for the newly-finished Piazza Ghiberti. A full bar and restaurant accompany a long list of musical events that will run until July 31.

Given that admission is open to everyone, that the concerts are free, and that the outdoor setting is refreshing on hot, summer nights, it is not surprising that the tables and piazza were packed on its opening weekend. The City is pleased with the results and hopes that it will be an example followed by other neighbourhoods around Florence.
