On the heels of the inauguration of a Salvador Dalí exhibition at Pisa’s Palazzo Blu, the pioneering Surrealist will soon be spotlighted in Pietrasanta (LU). In a show titled “Between Dream and Reality,” a selection of Dalí’s bronze sculptures will be installed in piazza Duomo, within the church and in the cloister of Sant’Agostino, from November 12 to February 5, 2017.
Sculptures are thematically similar or are direct reinterpretations of some of Dalí’s most renowned paintings—a small Giraffe Woman sculpture modeled after his 1937 Burning Giraffe painting is an example. Instantly recognizable is Dance of Time I, depicting one of his melting clocks, as seen in iconic painting The Persistence of Memory. The elephant, another recurring theme in his work, can be seen in the large-scale Space Elephant, standing more than seven metres high. Other monumental works on display will include the 4.88 metre-high Surrealistic Piano and the only slightly smaller Cosmic Rhinoceros, Woman Aflame and Space Venus.
Put on by the City of Pietrasanta and the Fondazione Versiliana, the show will also include an exclusive selection of Dalí’s crystal sculptures created for the Daum studio in Nancy, France, as well as numerous graphic drawings. Entry is free.
