20,000 LEGO bricks in 400 different shapes and 10 colours from all over the world have been used to make the first ever scale LEGO model of Florence Cathedral and the Baptistery.

Standing 150 cm x 60 cm x 65 cm, the model has been designed by Giacinto Consiglio, a 17-year-old student from Puglia. The LEGO Duomo was made, brick by brick, on October 21 at Florence’s Opera del Duomo Museum.

From October 22 to November 9, 2017, the model will be on display in a room of the museum for which an entrance fee will not apply. On November 11 and 12, the play cathedral and baptistery will moved to ObiHall for the Bricks in Florence Festival.

In a press release, president of Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore commented, “Looking at our Cathedral through LEGO, a universal language that brings together enthusiasts from all over the world, regardless of age or culture, is a unique experience, the creation of a work through play.”
