Overnight work continues on a pipe that burst in lungarno Cellini on Tuesday, November 28.
The DN 300 pipe created a traffic disturbance on the south side of the Arno river, flooding the road. Pedestrian access resumed today at 8am. The rupture disturbed the southern part of the city’s water supply.
In a note, Publiacqua informed local newspaper La Nazione, “The depth of the pipeline, about two metres, and the presence of other underground utility lines, including gas, complicate the work and necessitate extra precautions. Despite these difficulties, work will continue today as we try to resolve the issue.”
City councillors Tommaso Grassi, Donella Verdi and Alternativa Libera Counselor Miriam Arnato asked the municipality and Publiacqua to explain the causes of the burst pipe.
On May 25, 2016, Publiacqua faced a similar situation when the lungarno Torrigiani tube buckled 200 meters of road and swallowed cars, a 10-minute walk downriver from lungarno Cellini.
The City of Florence provided detours for Lines 23, 23N and DH.
