Palazzo Medici Riccardi was designed by Michelozzo in 1444 according to the commission assigned to him by Cosimo the Elder. A model of civil architecture in the Renaissance, the palazzo was purchased by the Riccardi family in 1659. Its masterpieces include Benozzo Gozzoli’s Magi Chapel, Filippo Lippi’s Madonna and Child and Luca Giordano’s Apotheosis of the Medici.
