The City of Florence, in collaboration with charity Caritas, is increasing their efforts to help homeless residents during the current cold spell.

With the support of the Red Cross, Insider, Florence’s Misericordia and Fratellanza Militare, as well as other social and community associations like Ronda della Carita, Sant-Egidio, Angeli della Città, Porte Aperte and Caritas di Monticelli, assistance and support is provided daily in the form of shelter and beds at reception centres in addition to sleeping bags, warm clothing and hot drinks for those living on the streets. Access to the facilities can be booked at the help desk at the Solidarietà Caritas at via Faentina 32, open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 1pm (Thursday from 2 to 4pm).

As the cold weather continues, emergency efforts and support services for the homeless are set to double and city councillor for welfare Sara Funaro is calling upon residents to help. “Tell us if you see someone sleeping on the street, and if you have blankets and sleeping bags, please donate them to the associations and centres.”

Inform the city’s welfare office by emailing assessore.funaro@comune.fi.it or calling 055 2769141 (office hours: 9:30am-6:30pm).
