Effective August 26, travellers in Tuscany can take free voluntary swab tests on leaving or arriving in the region’s ports and stations.

Covid-19 swab test

Walk-in or drive-through testing points will be operational in the ports of Livorno and Piombino as from 8am on August 26 before soon extending to the main railway stations in Florence, Pisa, Arezzo, Viareggio and Grosseto.

Persons who decide to take the test must self-isolate until they receive the result, which is usually communicated within 24 to 36 hours.

Passengers arriving at Pisa and Florence airports from risk areas must be tested 72 hours before entry or within 48 hours after entry. Oropharyngeal swab testing is not performed directly at the airport. You must register here and the authorities will contact you to perform the swab.

In order to avoid queues in the transport hubs, residents in Tuscany are advised to book a test in the town where they live within 24 hours of returning to the region: book the Covid-19 swab test online here. Reservations may be made online from 8pm on August 25.
