The City of Florence has declared that residents can park free of charge within the blue parking spaces found across the city.
This measure, which fulfills one of Mayor Nardella’s election campaign promises, is being trialled from October 19, 2020 to December 31, 2021. Residents of Florence can now park their cars in any of the blue-lined parking spaces around the city. All they need to do is display a permit in their windscreen, which can be requested online and collected from one of 34 newsstands.
Five shades permit are available, corresponding to the five municipal zones. Residents of Zone 2, for example, can only purchase the Zone 2 permit (green), but are then allowed to park in any of the five zones.
Residents can register for the permit here, clicking on the link “Vetrofania”. They must then make a 10 euro payment, after which they will receive a confirmation email: this will give the date from which they can collect the permit from their selected news kiosk. The resident must bring a copy of their receipt to the kiosk, and pay 2 euro to pick up the permit.
Mayor Nardella has welcomed the initiative, while clarifying that “it does not give a green light to unrestricted car use”. He emphasized that the city council is devoting the majority of its efforts to a more bicycle-friendly Florence with expanded public transport.
