Florence wants to be the host city of the Six Nations international rugby competition in 2012. Local officials recently approved a motion to create a committee to work toward getting Florence nominated to host the international event. The proposal would have the Franchi stadium as the venue for the 2012 Six Nations rugby competition.

Champion of the idea, local councillor for the Gruppo Misto, Stefano Di Puccio, says he is very happy about the prospect. ‘I invite the mayor and the local administration to start work today; to set up meetings with Italian Rugby Federation and the Tuscan Regional Committee to secure the Franchi stadium  . . .The city loves this sport and interest in rugby continues to grow constantly,’ Di Pucci told the local press.
