For each of the last three years, local non-profit association of volunteers Caritas Florence has published a report titled Fragile Profiles, the result of an annual study on poverty in Florence, with analysis of information gathered by Caritas through its services for the poor in and around the city.

Collectively, the studies show that the city’s most impoverished groups are immigrants, the elderly, families, the unemployed, Rom peoples, the homeless, and those who are separated or divorced.

On December 1, president of the Province of Florence, Andrea Barducci, and Archbishop Monsignor Giuseppe Betori, president of Caritas, released the most recent report. Towards the goal of raising public awareness on the problems of poverty, Caritas has organized a photographic exhibition, Fragile Profiles in Florence, featuring shots of Florence’s poor taken by two young photographers, Paolo Corbu and Marco Bevilacqua. In addition, images by professional photographer Alessandra Zucconi chronicle the work of Caritas volunteers in Florence. The exhibit runs until December 11 at Galleria Via Larga (via Cavour 7r; 10am to 6pm; free entrance).
