A family of farmers in Locate
Triulzi, near Milan,
is proposing a way to beat the economic crisis while allowing consumers to
enjoy its meat products: cow-sharing. The Italian farmer’s association
Coldiretti recently awarded the Cornalba family one of this year’s ‘green
Oscars’ for allowing consumers to invest in a cow. The initiative, dubbed ‘cow
pooling’ by the Italian media, significantly cuts the costs of beef, with
prices running 4 euro a kilo for part of the cow, and 7.50 a kilo for half of the
animal. Buyers, however, must purchase at least 10 kilos or more to benefit
from the bargain price.
