Visitor-friendly Milan

Anticipating millions of international visitors to the 2015 Expo, which promises to be the largest world trade fair yet, the city of Milan recently introduced bilingual service on its new urban underground trains. Every stop and connection will be announced in English and Italian, and passengers will receive real-time service updates via an audiovisual system. The new trains are 105 meters long, consume minimal amounts of energy and feature six air-conditioned carriages with ergonomically designed seats. The upgrade is part of the 4.1-billion-euro investment in infrastructure that Milan authorities have promised in preparation for Expo 2015.
