With a star-studded track record of performers including Mika, Robert Plant and The Lumineers, Pistoia Blues is one of the region’s most renowned international festivals. Organizers recently announced that the next edition’s headliners will be New York-based gypsy punk group Gogol Bordello (July 12), joining with Scottish alt-rockers The Jesus and Mary Chain (July 7).
Gogol Bordello established themselves on Manhattan’s Lower East Side but have roots in Ukraine, with a name inspired by classical Russian Ukrainian writer Nikolai Gogol. Their sound famously fuses Gypsy music with punk, reggae, rock and dub influences. The Jesus and Mary Chain are best known for their ‘80s noise pop and post-punk albums, but will release Damage and Joy, their first album in 18 years, on March 24.
Ahead of the summer festival, two preview events will take place this month.
