Snow is forecast to fall in Florence on Thursday, March 1.
During a meeting held at the Palazzo Vecchio, Mayor Dario Nardella announced an “orange” weather warning from midnight to 6pm on March 1. All schools throughout the Metropolitan Area of Florence will be closed on March 1, including kindergartens and universities. (Schools in Calenzano, Palazzuolo sul Senio, Firenzuola, Barberino di Mugello, Scarperia e San Piero and Vicchio will remain open.) Trams and buses are expected to run, depending on meteorological conditions. Thirty-three trucks are ready to salt the streets and remove excess snow and more than a hundred volunteers are on alert to check and intervene should emergencies occur. The City of Florence has advised citizens only to drive if absolutely necessary, equipped with snow chains or thermal tyres by law.
