The contemporary art exhibition “Black on Black. From Fontana and Kounellis to Galliani” opens on April 14, 2017 at Florence’s Villa Bardini.

Inspired by the eponymous book by Sicilian author Leonardo Sciascia, the exhibition displays more than 30 artworks by internationally renowned contemporary Italian artists. The sole theme is the colour black, not only in painting but in sculpture and fashion too.

The minimalist colour is seen in a range of variations, from Lucio Fontana’s spatialism with his famous slashes to the Arte Povera of Mario Ceroli and Jannis Kounellis, the pop art of Tano Festa and Franco Angeli, and the informal works of Alberto Burri, amongst others. The exhibition culminates with a selection of black clothing by Roman designer Roberto Capucci.
