20,000 LEGO bricks in 400 different shapes and 10 colours from all over the world will be used to make the first ever large-scale LEGO model of Florence Cathedral and the Baptistery.

Expected to stand 150 cm x 60 cm x 65 cm, the model has been designed by Giacinto Consiglio, a student from Puglia. The LEGO Duomo will be made, brick by brick, on October 21 at Florence’s Opera del Duomo Museum, from 10am to 7pm and the public is encouraged to take part in the process.

From October 22 to November 9, 2017, the model will be displayed in a room of the museum for which an entrance fee will not apply. On November 11 and 12, the play cathedral and baptistery will moved to ObiHall for the Bricks in Florence Festival.

In a press release, president of Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore commented, “Looking at our Cathedral through LEGO, a universal language that brings together enthusiasts from all over the world, regardless of age or culture, is a unique experience, the creation of a work through play.”
